Life With Mountain: A Unique Oriental Residence

Life With Mountain is a residential house that stands out for its exceptional design and thoughtful integration of cultural elements. The initial challenge was the fragmented layout caused by the pitched roof structure and disorderly floor allocation. Alen Lo tackled this issue by introducing three consecutive high and low stages, effectively increasing the visual height of the public space. By rearranging the layout, the pillars that once confined the space were cleverly hidden, creating a more open and spacious atmosphere.

One of the key features of Life With Mountain is the concept of visual compensation. By precisely connecting the front and rear walls with clear vertical lines of iron pieces and grilles, the space dimensions are greatly enlarged, giving a sense of grandeur. This design solution not only solves the existing structural problems but also visually forms a square layout, maximizing space efficiency for the residents.

The integration of Eastern and Western cultural consciousness is evident throughout the design. The use of materials, colors, and natural elements such as sunlight and plants creates an ambiance that reflects the artistry of new oriental culture. In the living room, bamboo-style walls, grilles, and a carved Heart Sutra present a Wisdom Path rich in oriental Buddhist characteristics. The back wall of the living room features a landscape painting created using Western oil painting techniques, inspired by Chinese ink art. This combination of styles extends the scenery beyond the window, creating a sense of hidden beauty and depth.

Throughout the design process, Alen Lo paid meticulous attention to the technical specifications of Life With Mountain. By redefining the stairs and kitchen, the sense of oppression from the pillars is effectively hidden, and the reading area by the window is extended. The secondary bedroom on the second floor also underwent a transformation, with several pillars being rearranged to create more possibilities for space usage based on the residents' needs and daily activities.

Life With Mountain is not only a visually stunning design but also a recipient of the prestigious A' Design Award. This recognition highlights the project's excellence in interior space, retail, and exhibition design. The award acknowledges the innovative and practical nature of the design, which successfully integrates industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, ultimately contributing to a better world.
